Across the Pond

I began working on a team to develop a cross continental poetry club that will collaborate with two universities. The project has a lot of potential. This is the first flier of which I designed and wrote the poetry. Dr. Edmund Skellings, poet laureate of Florida, is the rock that binds this project together.  I wish them much luck.

The Mask

To Dr. Edmund Skellings

You are as “good” as me.
What else do you want to hear?
What you have, you won’t get from me.
You don’t need a certain pedigree.

The rest is just stuff.
You see it here and there.
Letters from governors.
Photos of me with those famous people.

So many come through these doors and ask.
Read this and help me find my mask.
Tell me I’m good and I’ll be free.
Your judgment I need.

But you are my equal and real.
Every now and again I will get a feel
For someone’s soul from their first words.
That they are not pretending.
